What can I as a participant do to guarantee my safety and that of my fellow participants?

Make sure you eat and drink enough and start with a decent warmup before the run. Also take the weather conditions into account. For example, wear a thermal shirt, long pants and a hat when it is cool. If it is very hot and sunny, wear a cap and sunscreen. Sturdy (trail run) shoes with a good profile (no spikes!) give you stability.
Make sure that you do not dive or jump into water if you do not know how deep it is (and if you cannot swim of course).
Be aware that an outdoor event does not take place in a clinical setting. Avoid ingesting water and rinse yourself thoroughly after the run. Also check yourself and each other for ticks after the run. Report to the first aid post with (scrap) wounds or any other physical complaints. Make an appointment with your doctor if you get any complaints after the event.
Also pay attention to your fellow participants on the trail and warn the organization if you see Mud Masters needing help. There multiple course marshalls that you can always address who are in direct contact with our safety coordinators.
